The Scottish Business Crime Centre (SBCC) is a unique partnership between Central Government, Police and the Business Community. It provides a dynamic and innovative approach to reducing business crime in Scotland, by promoting specific initiatives within industry sectors and community groups, spreading good practice in business related crime prevention, promoting research in the field, and by creating and supporting a network of relevant partnerships and programmes.
The Project Background
Central to SBCC’s operations is the need to share information and in particular, crime intelligence. The medium required for such sharing of information is a crime intelligence database.
While such a database was in use within the SBCC a need was identified for the development of a new database to service existing and developing projects.
Netmedia’s Solution
The Scottish Business Crime Centre decided that the best solution would be provided by ‘Netmedia Business Solutions’. The ability of NetMedia to bring the latest in internet technology to the project was invaluable as the user base of this scheme is widely distributed geographically.
By utilising an internet solution, each user could now “Provide” and “Receive” intelligence through Web Pages.
By using internet technology, information could be shared in real time allowing up to the minute information to be available 24 hours a day.
Similarly, as an added benefit, using an internet based solution meant that SBCC had no additional outlay for hardware or user software licenses. The only hardware required would be an ordinary PC hooked up to the Internet.
Netmedia produced an extremely sophisticated and functional database with a user friendly interface that will assist in the prevention and detection of crime.
For security reasons, Netmedia run the system from a high security server farm where the data is continually encrypted.

Additional SBCC Projects
Once the benefits of an internet based solution had been recognised by SBCC, the concept was then rolled out to other applications. One such application is a Good Practice Database. This allows Member Organisations, Partners and The Police to exchange knowledge about Best Practice in a wide number of different scenarios. Again none of the users need to be connected in any way with each other, apart from being on the internet.
SBCC now also benefit from using a TCS Website. Their TCS Website allows them to have complete control of the content of their site, create an unlimited number of new pages at will, take sections of the website on and off line, and provides private, password protected areas for members and other particular groups of Users.
